Scientific-Atlanta Purchased By Cisco

Congratulations to all the hard working folks at S-A. Despite ups and downs through the years, the announcement last week that the company is being purchased by Cisco is a well-deserved reward for a well managed business.

Several members of The Content Factor team worked closely with S-A throughout the years. In fact, during the 1990s--first as Crescent Communications and then as Ketchum--we handled most of the public relations for this grandaddy of Atlanta technology companies. Jay Tillinghast wrote most of their press releases during this period.

We're glad to see the company sold to a successful and innovative company like Cisco--rather than to a private equity firm, or some other financial engineering entity.

I remember being part of the famous Orlando Interactive Trials in the early 1990s. All of that has now come to pass, including video on demand and HDTV, albeit a bit later than at first predicted. S-A was at the forefront of the digital broadband revolution. Now as part of Cisco, we look forward to seeing more great things from the company.
